Need You Now picks up a year later and Lilly and Adam have been exclusive to each other but it’s a no strings-sex-only relationship. Lilly and Adam were introduced in the first book of this series but it’s not necessary to read that in order to follow their story. This book went in a direction I never expected and loved. It is just lust masquerading as love and I wasn't buying it. Neither this book nor the first is about love. Or maybe I just prefer books where there is real romance. Maybe I'm becoming too much of a cynic for romance books. Just the same way that I would hope no one would think that a having a one night stand and a two week fling is going to lead you to the love of your life.Īnyway that's just my opinion. I would hope no adult woman would deceive herself into thinking that getting knocked up by her booty call would lead to love and marriage. The theme for both this book and the first in this series is let go of your inhibitions, have a no strings attached fling for the first time in your life, then you will find the "one". I think this relationship is just as unhealthy as Minka and Jason's from the first book, but at least these two knew each other for more than two weeks. I can't believe these people are adults in their late 20s and early 30s. I was so tired of her that I breathed a sigh of relief when this story finally ended. And of course when she finds out he does "love" her, it's still not enough because he doesn't love her enough. When he finally opens up it's not good enough because he doesn't love her.
Then when he does commit and they start dating she's still mad because he won't open up and be vulnerable with her. Then she gets knocked up and discovers she's in "love" so she wants Adam to commit to her.
What exactly? We don't know because Lily didn't even know what she wanted. First she wanted sex, no strings attached. At one point Lily says taking off your clothes and having sex is no big deal but opening your soul and discussing the future is too intimate? My face when reading this was just likeĪdded to that Lily is juvenile and doesn't know what she wants. I'm confused as to how you can feel comfortable enough to have unprotected sex with someone yet not comfortable enough to be an adult and tell them you're pregnant. Lily finds out pretty early on in the story yet it takes forever for her to actually reveal it to Adam. It's no secret (it's in the blurb for the book and the premise is based off of this). But, in all honesty, I did not like this book. Jolie is a good writer and it would be unfair to give her a low rating.
